I have been fortunate enough to work on the Spotlight on the Arts campaign for the past 7 years. We have done many styles and motifs over the years.
The artwork I create is used throughout the campaign. From posters and maps, to bus advertising and lapel pins.
Of course with AI, people love using ChatGPT to “Make a poster”, etc. Today was the day I got AI appropriated. Someone took my artwork and AI’ed their poster for their event during the Spotlight.
Original Artwork on the left, AI’ed artwork on the right.
They could have just asked me for the Branded artwork.
I spent countless weeks working with the art council to get the right style. With hundreds of variations. (Their AI actually used a variation I already created, but was shot down by the council.)
When I saw the advertisement, I was upset and lashed out. To which I was told a council member allowed it. (The one that made me do the most changes.) The “artist” that made the new flyer said she didn’t appropriate it.
Uh yeah, it’s pretty blatant!
When I work on projects, I’m involved in every step of the process. From design to the finished pieces.
Instead of being upset, I jumped in and had to Fix it, with my corrected Brand approved artwork.
Should I be upset about this?
